JUNCTION CITY, Calif. — Trinity County identifies Junction City Transfer Site as a location where residents can recycle eligible mattresses at no charge. Its current county recycling page lists the service during normal operating hours of Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site is closed on county-observed holidays.
Why the site is different
According to the county, mattresses delivered to transfer sites other than Junction City, or outside a specially organized recycling event, may be treated as regular trash and charged the applicable tipping fee. The Junction City location offers a dedicated alternative that can help keep bulky items out of household garbage and illegal dumping areas.
The county’s website does not establish that every mattress type, condition or commercial quantity will be accepted without limitation. Before transporting a damaged, wet or unusually large mattress, residents should call the solid-waste office to confirm eligibility and current procedures. The county can be reached at 530-623-1326, extension 9200.
Other recycling options
The same county recycling guide points residents to beverage-container refund collection in Weaverville and to separate carpet recycling at the Weaverville transfer site. It also explains that different transfer facilities accept different kinds of oil, batteries, yard waste and electronic equipment. Do not assume the mattress-recycling exception applies to every type of large household item.
Road and weather conditions can affect travel on Highway 299, and the county may revise hours. Verify operating status before loading a vehicle.
